At The Landing, kaitiakitanga — guardianship of the land — is not just a guiding principle, but a daily practice that continues to shape the way we care for our environment, people and place. The release of our 2024 Sustainability Report provides a moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved, what we’ve learned, and where we’re heading.
Reflecting on a Quiet but Powerful Year
2024 brought a welcome sense of calm following the challenges of recent years. With fewer external disruptions, our team was able to consolidate, refine, and deepen our sustainability efforts across every part of the property.
This year’s report highlights significant progress across our three pou (pillars): Mana Whakahaere (Governance), Te Taiao (Environment), and Te Tangata (People & Culture).
At The Landing, sustainability is not a destination, but a long-term, evolving journey. As Peter Cooper notes, “Wine tells the story of a place in its own way” — and so does every tree planted, every dune restored, and every native bird returned to the skies. We invite you to explore the full 2024 Sustainability Report and share in our vision for a future where people and nature thrive together.
Greening the City 2025
How we’re helping restore Aotearoa’s native forest
In early April, we held our annual collaboration with the Britomart precinct in Auckland: the Greening the City native tree giveaway. The project has been running for five years now, and involves giving away thousands of native trees and plants, raised from seed at The Landing, to Aucklanders wanting to ‘reforest their own backyards and balconies. In exchange, we suggest a donation to a selected native reforestation charity – this year it was the Motutapu Restoration Trust, which has been working for over 30 years to help transform one of the Hauraki Gulf’s islands from denuded pasture to a reforested sanctuary for native birds and wildlife.
After a busy three days where our nursery manager Caleb Scott joined members of the Britomart team in Britomart’s Takutai Square to help members of the public choose the perfect tree for them, we were delighted to help raise over $11,600 to support the Motutapu Restoration Trust’s work.
