Greening the City 2024

April 20 2024

Our annual Greening the City initiative in collaboration with Britomart in Auckland gave away thousands of native trees during three days in April and raised money for reforestation in the process.

The trees being given away were raised from seed in our nursery at The Landing. Anyone could collect one or two trees and donate to the Native Forest Restoration Trust to support the incredible work they do across New Zealand. This year over $8000 was raised for the Trust.

Our own nursery manager Caleb Scott led lunchtime planting workshops for adults and children, which were well-received. This is one of our favourite projects every year, and its continued success encourages us in our efforts to continue reforesting The Landing and beyond.

Caleb Scott – Nursery Manager

Caleb has been running the native plant nursery at The Landing for approximately 14 years. He started as a landscaping contractor at the age of 18 and work for over 20 years in native species and land management. His extensive expertise has enabled him to oversee the reforestation of more than 100 acres across various locations at The Landing.

Reflecting on his work, Caleb says he loves the process of nurturing seeds into thriving plants. “When you pack a seed you’ve harvested out into a small pot and it grows, that’s quite exciting”, he says.

In recent years, Caleb’s reforestation efforts have extended beyond the property, as he helps host an annual giveaway of native seedlings at The Landing’s sister property, Britomart in Auckland, to encourage Aucklanders to establish native plants in their own backyards.
